Back to Home School

It’s back to school time, who’s excited?, Today’s post is a back to school one since everyone is getting ready to go back or already back. Most people don’t know but I am home schooled and have been since January 2017, anyone that I do tell always has a million questions so I thought I’d do a blog post on it!

Little back story, why I’m home schooled, I wasn’t always home schooled I completed nearly 3 years of secondary school along with years before that, but I was total unhappy with my school and the people, don’t get me wrong I had no problems with the work i loved it, i loved being busy but the people in my school would drain the life out of you, plus around this time i was going to hospitals and doctors trying to figure out what was wrong with me and what my pains were ( if you don’t know you can read about my pains here ) but my teachers, principal along with the students would literally judge me for missing school and anytime I gave them a note they would play a game of 21 question because they thought I was faking it and making it up, my principals once sat and compared me to other girls in my school saying oh well this girl has this wrong with her and she still goes and does this, they knew nothing about my illness or what pain I went through so they can’t sit there and tell me someone else has it worst than me, do you really think from the age of 12 i wanted to spend most my days, in hospital or bed and have to give up my sports which i loved very much because of pain? Anyways i said this to my parents and i looked up schooling options and they both agreed and thought it was best for me. At this point I’m already having the idea to start a blog, so in January my Mam said from then till June i will continue to study and get my exams done and then we’ll go straight into your blog which we did. The next year came around 4th year which is optional and you don’t really do much, my mam said how about another year of blogging so you can figure out if you want to just stick and grow your blog or go back and finish your final years in school, my mam kept saying you want blogging to be your career so why not invest in that now and help it if that’s what you are set on doing.

So thing year is going to be a little different, im going to be working on my blog and social media presence so much, aswell as making a portfolio to go do a full-time business course in college I want to do next year so my subjects this year are blogging and business along with a few others, I choose to do Maths, English, Irish and Spanish too, which I’m so happy with, along with that this year I will be doing different part-time courses for my portfolio and get me back into a school routine, they are all business and social media related. It’s less stressful and i get to work in a space I’m comfortable with and i also get to plan out my day, what i want / have to do and it definitely decreases my anxiety for trying to get loads of stuff done, because unlike a busy and set school day, my schedule can be changed around on days i have places to go or other stuff to do, it isn’t just a normal timetable i have to follow daily. Homeschooling / working from home is definitely less stressful, you don’t have people all around you messing and talking so you can sit, concentrate and get your work that you need done without a million different distractions. I definitely get a lot more work done now.

Basically the reason behind me being home schooled was mostly my blog I wanted to make a career out of it and start as soon as i could and my parents supported that, it was also my pains and my school but mostly for my blog, which i know some parents wouldn’t do but my did and I’m so happy they did and i want to show them they made the right choice.

I’m going to do a home school Q&A so if you have questions comment or tweet me them to me.

thank you for reading,

becca xo

  2. I’m sorry to read this and sorry you had such a bad experience at school, I can relate but wasn’t as strong as you in the sense to speak up and make a change. It’s amazing that you’re parents have been so supportive and that you are fully on your journey to doing what you want alongside developing your skills without having to suffer the politics. You go girl. You’ve got it all ahead of you now. x
